Aerosol Delivery
Many pulmonary studies involve an aerosol challenge. Buxco provides a variety of approaches for delivering aerosol to your system. For each approach, we recommend the Aeroneb® Lab nebulizer package for aerosol generation. Aeroneb components are compact and efficient – ideal for laboratory applications. Buxco systems may include an aerosol timer, delivery rate control, manual and/or software-driven aerosol control, drying, and a dilution air flow source as needed.
Distributed Aerosol
Distributed aerosol is most commonly used for multi-site whole body plethysmography (unrestrained and restrained) systems. One nebulizer generates aerosol into a distribution chamber. A dilution air flow then carries the aerosol from the distribution chamber through plastic tubing to each plethysmograph. This same approach can be used for multi-site double chamber (non-invasive airway mechanics) systems.
Direct Aerosol
Nebulizers can be inserted into some Buxco plethysmographs (unrestrained whole body chamber, double chamber, and mass dosing chamber). Aerosol generated by the nebulizer enters each chamber directly. One nebulizer is required for each chamber.
In-line Aerosol
For resistance and compliance applications, a nebulizer is attached to a small aerosol block which is placed in the inspiratory flow line. In this way a small amount of aerosol is injected directly into the airway.
Nose-only Exposures
Buxco's nose-only chambers are designed to fit third-party exposure towers. Contact your Buxco representative for more information.
