Head-Out Plethysmography
|
| PLY3018 for rabbit |
For monitoring basic respiratory parameters, use Buxco's Head-out chambers with the Flow Derived Parameters (FDP) software analyzer. The FDP analyzer can also be used to with nose-only chambers, head chambers, and in-line pneumotachographs.
A flow transducer detects the respiratory waveform generated by thoracic movement. This waveform is then analyzed to provide the following:
- Breath frequency
- Tidal volume
- Total volume breathed
- Minute ventilation
- Inspiratory time
- Expiratory time
- Peak inspiratory flow
- Peak expiratory flow
- End inspiratory pause (time of brake)
- End expiratory pause (time of pause)
- Relaxation time
- Expiratory flow at 50% volume (EF50)
- Others
Advantages: Study conscious subjects, study several subjects simultaneously, direct measurement of flows, no temperature or humidity dependence, combine with telemetry for measurement of cardiovascular or conscious lung resistance parameters.
Tradeoffs: subjects must be restrained, a neck seal is required
